Six more families shooting victims flown to Christchurch

SEPANG, March 22 (NNN- Bernama) — Six more family members of victims of the shooting incident in Christchurch were flown to Auckland, New Zealand tonight to visit Rahimi Ahmad and Mohd Nazril Hisham Omar who were still being treated at the hospital.

Family members of Rahimi who will board the Malaysia Airlines flight MH0131 to Auckland, New Zealand at 11.10 pm are his younger sister Nor Nadiah Ahmad, 29, two aunties Robiah Salleh, 60, and Azizah Mohmad, 60, as well as Nor Nadiah’s son Khairil Mikhail Khairil Azrizal, 2.

Meanwhile, Mohd Nazril’s younger and elder sisters, namely Rosmaliza, 45, and Rosmawati, 51, also took the same flight.

Among those present to send them off was Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MoTAC) Muhammad Bakthiar Wan Chik.

Speaking to reporters at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) today, he strongly criticised the tragedy and thanked MAS which sponsored the flight tickets Kuala Lumpur-Auckland-New Zealand.

“MAS only flies to Auckland and also sponsored the subsequent flight to Christchurch by New Zealand Air

“I spoke to Rahimi’s wife this morning and she said the victim was stable after undergoing four operations,” he said. 

Meanwhile, Rahimi’s younger sister, Nor Nadiah said her elder brother was still in hospital and had undergone surgery to remove fragments of a bullet which pierced Rahimi’s right rib via operations in stages.

“Rahimi could speak and gave positive response when his name was called by my mother and elder brother. I hope my brother’s condition will improve after this,” she said when met at KLIA just now.

Rosna liza said her elder brother, Mohd Nazril would be transferred to a normal ward to rest although his condition was reported to be stable.

The Foreign Ministry today confirmed that Muhammad Haziq, 17, was among the 50 victims who died in the shooting tragedy in Christchurch, last Friday.

Media reports said the victim’s remains had been laid to rest at 12 noon (Malaysian time) on Thursday.

Muhammad Haziq’s father, Mohd Tarmizi Shuib was also injured in the attack.
