Missing Malaysian teenager Muhammad Haziq confirmed killed in Christchurch mosque attack

KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 (NNN- Bernama) — A Malaysian teenager reported missing in the aftermath of the mosque attacks in New Zealand last Friday has been confirmed dead.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wisma Putra, said in a statement today that Muhammad Haziq Mohd Tarmizi, 17, is one of the 50 people who lost their lives when a terrorist shot at worshippers at two mosques in Christchurch.

Wisma Putra said the Malaysian government conveys its heartfelt condolences to the family of Muhammad Haziq.

Muhammad Haziq’s father, Mohd Tarmizi Shuib, was injured in the attack. The other injured Malaysians are Muhammad Nazril Hisham Omar and Rahimi Ahmad.

“The High Commission of Malaysia (in Wellington) will render its assistance to the family in the burial process,” said Wisma Putra.

It also said that Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa will be going to Christchurch to represent the government in giving support to the affected Malaysians.

Wisma Putra said it would like to seek the understanding of the media and the public to respect the feelings of the family members during this difficult time.
