Turkey Marks 98th Anniversary Of Republic Day

ANKARA, Oct 30 (NNN-ANADOLU) – Turkey celebrated its Republic Day and the 98th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Turkey yesterday.

Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, visited the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey, in the capital Ankara, laying a wreath and writing in the memorial book.

“At a time when all humanity is struggling with serious crisis because of the pandemic, Turkey continues its development journey with its successes in export, employment, production and investment,” Erdogan wrote.

The Turkish leader paid tribute to Ataturk and said, “We once again commemorate your comrades-in-arms and our heroic martyrs with gratitude.”

Turkey held official ceremonies and a series of events throughout the country, with national flags fluttering on main streets and buildings. Turkish diplomatic missions around the world hosted receptions celebrating the day.

Turkey celebrates its Republic Day on Oct 29 (yesterday), as the Turkish parliament declared the name of the nation and proclaimed the system of government as a republic On Oct 29, 1923, after a four-year independence war against several countries.
