Lebanon, Iraq Sign Cooperation Agreement

BEIRUT, Oct 5 (NNN-NNA) – Lebanon and Iraq yesterday signed an agreement, aiming at strengthening cooperation between their respective chambers of commerce, industry and agriculture.

The agreement binds both countries to facilitate business and information exchange, for their businessmen, while encouraging the increase of bilateral trade activities, a statement by Beirut’s Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, reported.

The agreement was inked on the sidelines of the Iraqi-Lebanese Business Conference, held at the chamber’s headquarters in Beirut, participated by officials from the two countries.

Head of the chamber, Mohamed Choucair, emphasised the importance of the conference, amid the economic slowdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The responsibility of the private sector is huge, and serious work is required to achieve progress, on the path of our bilateral economic relations,” he said.

Iraqi ambassador to Lebanon, Haidar Al-Barrak, suggested holding the conference on an annual basis, hoping it will be held each time, in one of the governorates that are in dire need of reconstruction projects in the two countries.

For his part, Lebanese Industry Minister, George Boujikian, said, the new cabinet aims at activating economic and trade relations, signing agreements with Iraq, and reducing duties on Lebanese industrial products exported to Iraq.– NNN-NNA
