Bangladesh’s Fiscal Q1 Remittances Top Five Billion USD

DHAKA, Oct 4 (NNN-BSS) – Bangladeshi people living and working abroad, remitted home more than five billion U.S. dollars in the first quarter of the current 2021-22 fiscal year, beginning July, the latest central bank data showed.

According to the Bangladesh Bank (BB), the flow of inward remittances in the first three months of the current fiscal year was estimated at some 5.40 billion dollars, down from 6.71 billion dollars in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

After the amount of remittances hit 1.87 billion dollars in July and 1.81 billion dollars in Aug, respectively, the figure of last month stood at 1.72 billion dollars, down over 19 percent from a year earlier, the BB data showed.

Bangladesh saw remittances hit an all-time high of nearly 25 billion dollars in the last fiscal year of 2020-21, ending in June, 2021.

The remittances mostly came from the Middle Eastern countries of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain.– NNN-BSS
