Pakistan’s Punjab Reports 223 New Dengue Fever Cases, Outbreak Feared

ISLAMABAD, Oct 1 (NNN-APP) – Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province reported 223 more dengue fever cases, during the last 24 hours, sparking fears of an outbreak in the region, an official said yesterday.

Secretary of the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department of Punjab, Imran Sikandar, told media that, out of the 223 dengue fever cases, 167 infections in the province were reported from the provincial capital of Lahore.

At least 35 cases were reported from Rawalpindi, the neighbouring district to the federal capital, Islamabad.

Punjab, the province which contains more than half of the country’s total population, reported 1,659 dengue fever cases this year, so far.

The official said that the health department has been conducting operations across the province to eradicate dengue larvae.

Pakistani capital, Islamabad, has also been facing an increasing number of infections and at least three patients have died of the disease, during the last two weeks, local media reported yesterday.– NNN-APP
