TEHRAN, Sept 21 (NNN-IRNA) – Iranian security forces destroyed four headquarters of “counter-revolutionary” groups by artillery, in northern Iraq, said the acting commander of the Hamzeh Seyed al-Shohada base, in Iran’s West Azarbaijan province, yesterday.
The recent operation came, in response to the movements of these groups in the area, which borders northern Iraq, Majid Arjomandfar was quoted as saying.
The groups had been stationed in northern Iraq, near the Iranian border, and Iranian officials had informed the Iraqi government and the authorities in northern Iraq, in this regard, Arjomandfar said.
“These militants are considered as enemies of Iran, wherever they are, and we consider it our duty to carry out operations against them,” he noted.
“The intelligence agencies of hostile and foreign countries and even some Arab states, organised the counter-revolutionary groups in northern Iraq, to use them against the Islamic Republic,” he added.
The western and north-western borders of Iran have been the focus of conflict between the Kurdish separatists and the security forces of Iran, over the past years.
In response to recent actions by the “counter-revolutionary” groups, the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), struck the headquarters of the militants in northern Iraq last week, by rockets and missiles.– NNN-IRNA
