Schools Reopen In Delhi While Heavy Rains Play Havoc

NEW DELHI, Sept 1 (NNN-PTI) – Schools in the Indian capital reopened for students in 9th to 12th standards today, though heavy rains in the morning hours played a spoilsport, affecting students’ attendance.

Attendance in the range of 15 to 20 percent was recorded in the schools. Incessant rains since early morning forced the students and teachers to stay put at home.

Today was the first day when schools in Delhi were reopened for students, after one and a half years, since the COVID-19 pandemic struck the country.

A school principal in south-west Delhi said that, students are raring to attend their physical classes, after remaining within four walls of their houses for such a long time, but rains restrained them from coming today.

“We have followed all COVID-19 related protocols, ensuring the safety of children and staff. We expect full attendance of students from tomorrow,” said the school principal.

Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia, said, Delhi was among the last states to reopen schools. The decision was taken after finding opinions from experts and parents.

“Online classes with any latest technology can’t be an alternative to offline classes. We consulted experts and took parents’ opinions too. Most of them advised us to reopen the schools but with all COVID-19 protocols in place. Today, the pandemic situation has improved a lot as only 27 cases are detected on conducting 100,000 tests,” Sisodia was seen telling a TV channel.– NNN-PTI
