“The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” Tops American Box Office In Opening Weekend

LOS ANGELES, Jun 21 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Lionsgate and Millennium Media’s action comedy, “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” led ticket sales at the American box office, with an estimated 11.67 million U.S. dollars between Friday and Sunday, from 3,331 theatres in its opening weekend, according to studio figures, collected by Comscore.

The film, a sequel to the 2017 “The Hitman’s Bodyguard,” grossed 17.02 million dollars in America, since its debut on Wednesday. The original, “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” earned 75.5 million dollars in North America and over 101.1 million dollars in international markets, including around 21.1 million dollars from the Chinese mainland.

Directed by Patrick Hughes – Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek reprise their roles from the first film. Antonio Banderas, Morgan Freeman and Frank Grillo join the cast of the sequel.

In the film, suspended bodyguard, Michael Bryce, must once again team up with hitman Darius Kincaid and his even more volatile wife. The trio get over their heads in a global plot and soon find they are all that stand between Europe and a vengeful and powerful madman.

“The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” holds an approval rating of 25 percent, based on 129 reviews to date, on review-aggregation website, Rotten Tomatoes, and a B CinemaScore from audiences.

Paramount’s horror film “A Quiet Place Part II” came in second, with 9.4 million dollars from 3,401 locations in its fourth weekend, for a North American cume of 125.25 million dollars. The film became the first film in the COVID-19 era to surpass 100-million-dollar revenue mark, in North America last week.

The sequel to the 2018 film “A Quiet Place” took in 15.7 million on its fourth international weekend in 45 markets, for an international total of 96.7 million dollars.

American filmmaker, John Krasinski, directed and co-wrote both Quiet Place films, about a family surviving in a post-apocalyptic world, inhabited by blind monsters with an acute sense of hearing. Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe reprise their roles from the first film.

In third place, Sony’s animated adventure comedy film, “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway” brought in 6.1 million dollars from 3,346 locations in its second weekend. The film has grossed 20.32 million dollars to date in North America.

Directed by Will Gluck, the sequel to the 2018 “Peter Rabbit” stars the voice of James Corden as Peter. Adventuring out of the garden in the sequel, Peter finds himself in a world where his mischief is appreciated, but when his family risks everything to come looking for him, Peter must figure out what kind of bunny he wants to be.– NNN-AGENCIES
