Spearheading Brunei’s Digital Transformation

BANDAR SRI BEGAWAN, Jun 19 (NNN-ANN) – The Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition (MYCE) 2021, continued its series of events yesterday with a conference on ‘Smart Nation Through Digital Transformation,’ organised by the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, as co-organisers of the Brunei MYCE 2021.

The conference, held at the Musyawarah Hall, International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas, features local and international panellists, in physical as well as online live sessions.

The conference saw discussions by industry experts, among others, Datastream Digital Sdn Bhd (DST) Chief Executive Officer, Radin Sufri Radin Basiuni, who highlighted the vast opportunities that can be tapped in digital economy, such as e-commerce, generation of data economy, and the establishment of Inno-Connect that supports community of developers, fuelling the country’s talents to leverage on potentials of a digital economy.

Quoting from Brunei’s Digital Economy Masterplan 2025, Radin Sufri said, a Smart Nation is supported in three parts: digital government, by increasing the number of government services from offline to online; digital economy, offering huge opportunities for local businesses, in creating new and untapped businesses and solutions, through digital platforms and digital society, by supporting local apps and online services to create an ecosystem, help it to sustain and drive local youth by providing new talents and skills in digital economy.

Radin Sufri shared that, DST has already been spearheading their digitalisation journey with their own products. He said, they would like to extend digitalisation experiences through private public-partnerships and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), to enable Brunei to improve productivity and innovation, as well as the sustainability of its digital economy.

He said that DST is fast moving from a traditional telco company to a more digital company, and has plans to expand outside the country.– NNN-ANN
