Uzbekistan, Afghanistan To Sign Preferential Trade Agreement This Year

TASHKENT, May 27 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Uzbekistan and Afghanistan will sign an agreement on preferential trade by the end of the year, to increase trade turnover by 2.5 times in the coming years, the Uzbek Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade said yesterday.

Implementation of this agreement will help Uzbekistan and Afghanistan increase trade turnover, from the current 800 million U.S. dollars, up to two billion dollars annually, according to the ministry.

This was announced during talks between Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister, Sardor Umurzakov and head of the Afghan Presidential Administration, Mohammad Shakir Kargar in Termez city, administrative centre of the Surkhandarya region.

The Uzbek side also welcomes Afghan entrepreneurs to seek business in the free trade zone “Termez International Trade Centre,” located on the border with Afghanistan.

Uzbekistan shares a short border line with Afghanistan in the south, and has been participating in socio-economic revival and regional infrastructure projects, including railways and electricity lines.– NNN-AGENCIES
