DHAKA, May 19 (NNN-BSS) – Bangladesh sent a second consignment of medical supplies to India, to help those suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Kolkata, in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal, handed over 2,672 boxes of medicines and protective items to the Indian Red Cross Society, at Petrapole, on the Indian side of the border yesterday, said the statement.
The consignment of 18 kinds of COVID-related medical supplies, including anti-biotics, Paracetamols, injections/vials and hand sanitizers, were produced by a Bangladeshi state owned company, it said.
Bangladesh sent the first consignment of 10,000 vials of antiviral injection Remdisivir to India on May 6.
Bangladeshi Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, earlier expressed her sympathy for the Indian people and reiterated Bangladesh’s support for its neighbouring country, saying, Bangladesh is ready to provide support in every possible way.
India is currently witnessing a resurgence in COVID-19 cases, and the second wave of the pandemic caused a shortage of oxygen and essential medicines in the country’s hospitals.– NNN-BSS
