Jordan King Denounces Israeli Violations At Al-Aqsa Mosque

AMMAN, May 10 (NNN-PETRA) – King Abdullah II of Jordan yesterday condemned the Israeli violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, while urging Israel to end the provocations, which contradict international law and human rights.

During a phone call with Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, King Abdullah expressed rejection of the Israeli authorities’ attempts to alter the demographics in East Jerusalem and its historical and legal status quo, while underscoring the necessity for Israel to abide by international humanitarian law.

The king reaffirmed Jordan’s ongoing efforts to safeguard Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and the city’s Arab and Islamic identity, according to a statement by the Royal Hashemite Court.

The king urged Israel to end its illegal measures to expel Palestinian families from the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood in East Jerusalem, which violate international humanitarian law, the statement said.

Reaffirming Jordan’s firm stance towards the Palestinian cause and its full solidarity with the Palestinians, in seeking just and legitimate rights, the Jordanian king emphasised that the two-state solution is the only way to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and achieve a just and lasting peace.

Yesterday, hundreds of Jordanians demonstrated near the Israeli embassy in Amman, to denounce Israeli violations of the rights of Palestinians in Jerusalem, while voicing solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Hundreds of Palestinians have been injured in the past few days during clashes with Israeli security forces in East Jerusalem and other Palestinian territories.

The clashes were sparked by Israeli restrictions on Palestinian Muslims in East Jerusalem, during the holy month of Ramadan and the Israeli plan to evict forcibly some Palestinian families from a neighbourhood in East Jerusalem.– NNN-PETRA
