Iran Reports 13,576 New COVID-19 Cases, 2,640,670 In Total

TEHRAN, May 9 (NNN-IRNA) – Iran reported yesterday, 13,576 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country’s total infections to 2,640,670.

The pandemic has so far claimed 74,524 lives in Iran, up by 283 in the past 24 hours, the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education said.

A total of 2,092,381 people have recovered from the disease or been discharged from hospitals across the country, while 5,545 remain in intensive care units, the ministry said.

The report added, 16,929,609 tests were carried out across the country.

As of yesterday, 1,286,004 people have received the coronavirus vaccines, with 262,611 of them having gotten their second doses.

In a meeting of the Iranian national headquarters fighting COVID-19 in Tehran, Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani, said yesterday that, the fourth wave of COVID-19 in Iran has reached its peak in all of Iran’s provinces, and it is starting to recede, state TV reported.

Thanks to the efforts of Iran’s medical staff, Rouhani noted, the number of deceased in the fourth wave was almost the same as in the previous surge, although the number of infected was much higher.

Iran has recently implemented restrictions on businesses and travels in high-risk areas, amid a new wave of the virus spread in the country.– NNN-IRNA
