KABUL, May 6 (NNN-AGENCIES) – A Taliban shadow district chief and four other militants were killed, after Afghan government security forces targeted their positions, in the country’s northern Baghlan province last night, the Defence Ministry confirmed today.

“Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF), targeted Taliban positions in Shahr-e-Kohna area of Nahrin district, and Cheshma-e-Shir area along Baghlan-Samangan provincial highway last night, killing five Taliban militants and wounding nine others,” the ministry said.

Among those killed were Qari Majid, Taliban’s shadow district chief for Nahrin, and Qari Eahsanullah, a militants’ divisional commander.

The province has been the scene of heavy clashes between Taliban and security forces in recent years.
