Strong Quake Strikes Kermadec Islands, New Zealand

KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 (NNN-Bernama) — A strong earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.5 on the Richter scale, occurred at 3.28 am Friday in Kermadec Islands, New Zealand, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

It said in a statement that the epicentre of the earthquake was 1,107 km northeast of Tauranga, New Zealand.

The statement said it, however, posed no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
