20 Wounded, Big Economic Loss Caused By Huge Fire In W. Afghan Dry Port: Report

HERAT, Feb 15 (NNN-XINHUA) – At least 20 people were wounded and a big economic loss was inflicted, in a fire that broke out in the customs office of Islam Qala dry port, in western Afghan border, on Saturday, local media reported yesterday.

“More than 1,000 oil, gas and cargo trucks were destroyed in the fire, in Herat province that broke out Saturday afternoon and put out late Saturday night,” Tolo News TV reported.

Local officials said, the fire caused a direct economic loss of over 50 million U.S. dollars to the port, that connects Afghanistan with Iran.

Iran provided help in response to a request from Afghanistan.

Jilani Farhad, provincial government spokesman, said, an armed clash between militants and security forces took place there, on Saturday.

However, Farhad did not say whether the incident was a terrorist act, saying that, investigation could determine the reason.– NNN-XINHUA
