Indonesia To Be Lower-Middle-Income Country Due To Pandemic: Minister

JAKARTA, Feb 10 (NNN-ANTARA) – Indonesia was projected to be a lower-middle-income country, as its economic growth in 2020 contracted by 2.07 percent, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a minister said.

Indonesia’s gross domestic product (GDP) per capita and gross national income (GNI) per capita, experienced a decline in 2020, Minister of the National Development Planning, Suharso Monoarfa told a virtual press conference here, yesterday.

Indonesia’s GDP per capita in 2020 decreased to 3,911.7 U.S. dollars, from 4,174.9 U.S. dollars in 2019, and the GNI per capita in 2020, reached 3,806 U.S. dollars, down from 4,047 U.S. dollars in 2019, the minister noted.

According to him, if the 2021 growth rate can reach 4.5-5.5 percent and next year’s rate at five percent, Indonesia’s per capita income is expected to stand at above 4,000 U.S. dollars, and it is hoped to become a middle-upper-income country again.– NNN-ANTARA
