Covid-19: Tunisian FM tests positive; reportedly in severe condition

TUNIS, Jan 25 (NNN-Xinhua) — Tunisian Foreign Minister Othman Jerandi on Sunday confirmed through social network his infection with COVID-19, local Mosaiquefm radio reported.

Jerandi announced that he had contracted COVID-19 despite taking all necessary precautions and following health protocols.

He added that his symptoms are severe right now.

He said he will continue his work to let Tunisians receive COVID-19 vaccines as soon as possible.

Jerandi was appointed as foreign minister in September 2020.

The Tunisian Health Ministry on Sunday night reported 2,059 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections in the country to 197,373.

The death toll from the coronavirus rose by 80 to 6,234 in the North African country, the ministry said in a statement. — NNN-XINHUA
