Myanmar Military Seizes Narcotics Worth 981.3 Million USD In 2020

YANGON, Jan 22 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar military seized large haul of narcotics worth over 1.3 trillion kyats (981.3 million U.S. dollars), in 2020, according to a release from the Military Information Team today.

The military confiscated over 1,438 kilograms of heroin, over 2,585 kilograms of raw opium, over three kilograms of opium, over 353 kilograms of marijuana, over 290 million stimulant tablets, over 16,891 kilograms of methamphetamine (ICE), over 69,812 kilograms of other related accessories across the country, while over 9,456 acres of poppy plantations were destroyed last year, the military’s release said.

Regionally, narcotic drugs worth over 874 billion kyats (657.1 million U.S. dollars) including heroin, opium, marijuana, stimulant tablets, methamphetamine (ICE) and others were seized in Shan state, while stimulants and ICE worth more than 144 billion kyats (108.2 million U.S. dollars) were confiscated in Yangon region, and drugs worth over 76 billion kyats (57.1 million U.S. dollars) in Rakhine state.

Meanwhile, narcotic drugs worth over 210 billion kyats (157.8 million U.S. dollars) were seized in other regions and states last year.

The release said, the military has been emphasising the drug eradication tasks as military operations, and has been cooperating with relevant departments and security organisations in fighting narcotics across the country.– NNN-MNA
