RAMALLAH, Palestine, Feb 26 (NNN-MA’AN) – Hundreds of Palestinians rallied in the centre of the West Bank’s Ramallah city, to support Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, and his position against the U.S. “Deal of the Century.”
The protesters marched through the city’s centre towards Abba’s Palestinian Authority (PA) headquarters, and gathered near the mausoleum of late Palestinian President, Yasser Arafat.
They raised slogans and banners in support of Abbas and his leadership of the Palestinian people.
Mahmoud Aloul, Abbas’s Fatah Party vice chairman, said, Abbas “chose to say ‘no’ to the U.S. because he refuses dictations. He chose the Palestinian prisoners, martyrs and their families.”
Activist Faiha Suleiman joined the march to express her support of Abbas.
“Our march is an expression of our solidarity and stance by the president, in face of the challenges and pressures against the Palestinian people,” she said.
Fatah Party accused Israel and the U.S. of “tightening financial blockade” against the PA.
The U.S. has cut 844 million U.S. dollars in aid to the Palestinians last year, including 359 million dollars allocated to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.
Palestinians declared that, they have boycotted the U.S. administration since it recognised Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and moved its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem last May.
They said in several statements that, the U.S. peace plan, which is called “Deal of the Century,” falls way short of their expectations and aspirations, for lasting and just peace settlement, and called for an international multilateral peace mechanism, to overlook peace negotiations.– NNN-MA’AN
