President Rouhani: Tehran-Damascus Ties Based On Brotherhood, Unity

TEHRAN, Iran, Feb 26 (NNN-IRNA) – President Hassan Rouhani said that, Iran will stand beside the Syrian government and nation as in the past, noting that Tehran-Damascus relations are based on brotherhood and unity.

He made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting Syrian President, Bashar Assad, on Monday.

Describing the Syrian government and nation’s victories against terrorists as valuable and significant, he said that, the Islamic Republic of Iran has always stood alongside Syria in the fight against terrorism and spared no effort to assist it.

“Iran is ready to help in the reconstruction of the country,” Rouhani said, noting that Iran will stay beside Damascus in stabilisation of the country and repatriation of the refugees.

Deep cultural and religious commonalities are major bonds between the two nations, he said, adding that, bilateral ties are based on brotherhood and unity.

Fortunately, due to multilateral cooperation, regional situation has improved in the entire region, during the recent Sochi meeting, leaders of Iran, Russia and Turkey have stressed safeguarding territorial integrity of Syria and condemned presence of alien forces in the country without Syria’s permission.

Assad, for his part, said that, the Syrian government and nation are always thankful to the Supreme Leader and Iranian government and nation’s support to the country in fighting terrorism, and “I am in Tehran to convey the appreciation.”

Today, Syria enjoys further stability and security compared to that in the past, Assad said.– NNN-IRNA
