Iran Seizes Foreign Vessel For “Smuggling” Fuel In Gulf: Local Media

TEHRAN, Nov 21 (NNN-IRNA) – Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), yesterday, seized a vessel in the Gulf, for carrying “smuggled” fuel, semi-official Mehr news agency reported.

The vessel, under the Panama flag, was carrying over 300,000 litres of “smuggled” fuel, said the news agency.

No further details were disclosed about the detained vessel and its crewmen.

Iran, which has some of the world’s cheapest fuel prices, due to heavy subsidies and the fall of its national currency, has been fighting fuel smuggling to neighbouring countries.

An estimated 10 million litres of fuel are smuggled from Iran every day, according to Iranian media reports.– NNN-IRNA
