5 militants killed in E. Afghanistan

GHAZNI (Afghanistan), Feb 22 (NNN-Xinhua) — Five militants were confirmed dead as government fighting aircraft pounded a Taliban hideout in Qarabagh district of the eastern Ghazni province on Thursday, provincial government spokesman Aref Nuri said Friday.

Acting upon intelligence report, the fighting aircraft targeted the hideout in Qabarga area of the district on Thursday evening, killing five insurgents including infamous commander Omar Farooq and his deputy Abu Mukhtar on the spot, the official said.

Taliban militants who are operating in parts of the restive Ghazni province over the past more than a decade have not commented. — NNN-XINHUA
