PARAGUAY ENDS WEEK UNDER DIRECT OBSERVATION OF MERCOSUR

ASUNCION, July 22 (NNN-Prensa Latina) -- Paraguay reached the end of this week under direct observation of the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), integrationist bloc that suspended the country for the breakdown of democratic institutions.

The sessions of Mercosur Review Tribunal continue Saturday in this capital, which must rule on a request from Asuncion to the lifting of sanctions imposed by other Member States due to the impeachment of President Fernando Lugo.

This body studies the request of Paraguay, although it already has in the ratification of the punishment and condemnation of the parliamentary coup that ousted Lugo, signed by Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay.

The court must make a decision before next Sunday, which is the deadline established by MERCOSUR rules to respond to a claim of this type.

On the other hand, members of a delegation of South American Parliament (PARLASUR) began to arrive in the capital last night, whose objective is to analyze the situation within the country to give a report to the PARLASUR plenary.

PARLASUR mission is composed of Congressmen Anibal Pereyra and Jorge Mazzarovich, from Uruguay, Julia Perie and Araceli Ferreyra, Argentina, Paulo Schueler, Brazil, and others who came for the rest of this weekend.
