NAIROBI, June 26 (NNN-KBC) -- The 57-member Kenyan team to the 18th African Athletics Championships beginning Tuesday in Porto Nova, Benin, is hopeful of retaining the overall title won in Nairobi during the 2010 event.
Team captain Mark Mutai said Monday that the team was out to show London Olympics-bound colleagues the way to success when they competed at the continental athletics showpiece to be staged from June 26 to July 1.
World junior champion Faith Chepngetich said the African Championships was part of the build-up events to the Olympics.
Kenya won the overall title with 10 gold medals in Nairobi in 2010 and Mutai believed the feat could be repeated at Porto Nova.
The team was selected during the Kenyan national athletics championships held at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani early this month.
