INTERNET ACCESS VIA MOBILE PHONES STARTS FOR ALL CUBANS

Havana, Cuba - Dec 7 People use their mobile phones to connect to internet through WiFi at a park in Havana, Cuba on Thursday. For the first time, average Cubans became eligible to sign up for internet service for their mobile phones Thursday, a development long awaited on the communist-ruled island. The president of the state telecoms company, Mayra Arevich, announced on television on Tuesday evening that the long-awaited service would available gradually through Saturday. Until now, locals have mostly relied on wi-fi hotspots and internet cafes and the 3G service has been restricted to state-employed journalists and foreign businesses among others.
