KENYA'S PRESIDENT OPENS PARLIAMENT AMID OPPOSITION BOYCOTT. Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta, flanked by National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi (left) and Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka, leaves Parliament Buildings after addressing legislators on Sept 12, 2017. He told MPs to uphold the supremacy of the Constitution and its institutions. The address, which formally inaugurated the first session of the 12th Parliament, was boycotted by members of the opposition, Nasa, who have questioned the decision by the President to summon the newly elected Parliament after his re-election on August 8 was nullified by the Supreme Court. Kenya’s election commission set Oct 17 as the date for a new presidential vote between Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga, following the Supreme Court ruling. Photo courtesy nation.co.ke
