SUDAN OPENS LARGE GOLD REFINERY IN KHARTOUM

SUDAN OPENS LARGE GOLD REFINERY IN KHARTOUM. Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir (2nd R) tours the new Sudan Gold Refinery in Khartoum on 19 September 2012. Officials say it is one of Africa’s largest plants. Gold mining in South Sudan went on high gear after its secession in July, 2011, with the nation urgently in need of foreign exchange. The Sudan Gold Refinery will produce more than 328 tonnes of gold each year. Photo courtesy Mohamed NureldinAbdallah
