VENEZUELA'S PRISON RIOT LEAVES 25 DEAD. Army officers preparing to investigate following deadly rioting in Yare I Prison, south of Caracas, Venezuela’s capital. Twenty-five people were killed and dozens wounded when two groups of inmates waged a gunbattle inside the penitentiary while hundreds of relatives were visiting, Venezuelan officials said 21 August 2012. During the violence on Sunday 19 Aug, one of those slain was a relative of an inmate, said Iris Varela, the government’s Prisons minister.
