LIBYAN OLYMPIC COMMITTEE CHIEF ABDUCTED IN TRIPOLI. A Libyan protester holds the portrait of the kidnapped president of Libya's Olympic Committee Nabil al-Alam during a sit-in calling for his release outside the Libyan interior ministry in Tripoli on 16 July 2012. Nine gunmen abducted al-Alam in the nation's capital grabbing him from his car and bundling him into a waiting vehicle, his brother said. He said there has been no contact with Ahmed Nabil al-Taher al-Alam or the captors since. Security officials said they are investigating al-Alam's disappearance. al-Alam's abduction comes a few days before the planned departure of Libya's five representatives to the London Olympics beginning on July 27.
