GAZA, March 21 (NNN-KUNA) -- Fatah Central Committee member Azzam Al-Ahmad held a meeting with a delegation from Hamas last Friday headed by the movement's deputy chairman of the politburo Mousa Abomarzouq in Damascus, Al-Ahmad told Radio Palestine on Sunday.
The official said the meeting was part of efforts to overcome Palestinian divide, but would not say whether any agreement was concluded at the meeting. He only stressed the discussions focused on the Egyptian proposed conciliation agreement, stating the movement has some reservations regarding said document.
He noted Fatah has its own reservations, but the two movements must find the will and means to step forward and end Palestinian divide.
"We all agreed to maintain communication and they promised to assess the meeting in consultation with their leadership, and they also said they thought some of the new points which came up during the discussions could offer a way forward," Al-Ahmad said.
"This divide among us Palestinians serves only the interests of our enemy, the Rightist government in Tel Aviv which constantly puts the stick in the wheel using this divide as pretext."
The official also stressed holding this meeting in the Syrian capital is not to be taken as indication of a wish to re-assign sponsorship away from Cairo, adding that both delegations agreed there is no alternative for Egyptian sponsorship, as all see Egypt the most capable party to bring about positive results.
The Palestinian rift meanwhile leaves Hamas with control over Gaza Strip and the West Bank under the control of Fatah, which runs its affairs from the Ramallah government headquarters. P-- NNN-KUNA |
