KLUANG, Malaysia March 20 (NNN-Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak will announce the new salary scheme for police personnel on March 25 to mark the 203rd anniversary of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).

Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said the Public Service Department, Finance Ministry and his ministry were at final stage of discussion of the salary scheme for lower rank personnel.

"The announcement will cover matters like salary and allowance, welfare, equipments and infrastructure," he told reporters after visiting Bandar T6 beat base at Taman Sri Lambak here on Saturday.

Hishammuddin hoped that the improved salary scheme would encourage lower rank personnel to perform better particularly in reducing the crime rate.

"If we manage to achieve our objective under NKRA (National Key Result Areas), there is no reason for the government not to recognise our efforts," he said.

The minister said his visit today was to observe police work on the ground like distribution of duty and case management to achieve the NKRA objective as this would help reduce crime.
