GENEVA, March 20 (NNN-KUNA) -- The non-aligned states group within the Human Rights Council in Geneva agreed Friday night to put the serious and escalating developments in the occupied Palestinian territories in the agenda of the Council's meeting next Monday.

Thy group will discuss the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the decisions and follow up the implementation of the recommendations of the Goldstone.

The group's member states, at the conclusion of their emergency meeting last night, expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people and condemnation of Israeli actions, calling the international community not to stand silent in front of Israel's continued defiance and indifference to international legitimacy of resolutions of the UN General Assembly, Security Council and UN human rights.

Ambassador Hisham Badr, head of the Egyptian permanent delegation to the UN in Geneva and president of the group, pointed out in a statement that the group had always condemned over the years the Israeli practices in East Jerusalem, Israel's settlement policy, land confiscation, demolition of Palestinian homes and the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip.

All these threat aim hindering the peace process and lead to serious and systematic violations of the human rights of the Palestinian people, particularly the right to self-determination and establish their independent state, he said.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian delegation presented its proposal of decisions to be presented to the Human Rights Council at its 13th session on the existing Israeli settlements, the right to self-determination and Israeli practices in occupied Palestinian territories.

The Palestinian delegation explained that the latest decision by the Council included designating independent international experts and specialists in international law, and entrusted to them assess the investigations conducted by Israel and the Palestinian side on violations that occurred during the Israeli war on Gaza Strip, as well as to initiate the establishment of a compensation fund for victims of such violations. -- NNN-KUNA
