MALAYSIA: DPM WANTS VARSITY STUDENTS TO HELP IN RACIAL INTEGRATION

MUAR (JOHOR,MALAYSIA), March 19 (NNN-BERNAMA) -- Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on Friday called on students of institutions of higher learningin Malaysia to be open minded in expediting the process of racial integration in the country.

According to him, this was important to ensure the objective of Malaysia becoming a developed country in its own mould by 2020 was achieved.

"We want the future of the country to be developed according to the demands of the times which now is exposed to various influences through the open virtual policy (free flow of information).

"We should foster cooperation although we are from various communities," he told reporters after attending a UiTM Shah Alam community progamme at the Pagoh sports complex here on Friday.

The programme organised Gerakan Belia 4B Malaysia Johor and the Johor branch of Gabungan Pelajar Melayu Semenanjung (GPMS) was attended by some 1,000 students of UiTM.

Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, added that he was confident that programmes like the one held today would help the cause (of integration).

Also present was UiTM vice chancellor, Profesor Dr Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar. -- NNN-BERNAMA
