DOHA, March 11 (NNN-KUNA) -- The conference for supporting development and investments in the Comoros held here has secured up to USD 540 million worth of aid, a Qatari official said.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmad Al-Mahmoud said in a statement at the final session of the conference on Wednesday that the overall donations by states reached USD 90 million, charities USD 90 million and development funds USD 45 million.
Donations by public authorities amounted to USD 13 million, the private sector USD 182 million and the Islamic Development Bank USD 120 million.
Director-General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development Abdel Wahab Al-Bader said Kuwait earmarked, last October, USD 3 million as aid for the Comoros, adding that a delegation would visit the republic next month to donate USD 1.5 million to a charity.
The UAE declared a grant of USD 10 million for the Comoros, Oman USD 3 million, Algeria 3 million and Libya USD 6 million. Sudan pledged USD 1 million, and Qatar announced Tuesday a grant of USD 13 million, and the Arab League pledged USD 1.5 million.
