ADDIS ABABA, March 10 (NNN-ENA) -- President Girma Woldegiorgis of Ethiopia saus his country and the Czech Republic should intensify efforts to further enhance bilateral economic co-operation.
During talks here Tuesday with a high-level Czech delegation led by the republic's Vice-Premier and Foreign Minister, Jan Kohout, President Girma also said Ethiopia and Czech Republic had a similar history and the former Czechoslovakia was one of only a few countries which had opposed Italian aggression in Ethiopia in the colonial era.
The president said Ethiopia had been registering commendable results in its efforts to reduce poverty and bring about rapid economic development and said there were opportunities to further strengthen overall relations between the two countries.
The countries should further strengthen existing co-operation in the economic, trade and investment sectors.
Kohout lauded Ethiopia's efforts to maintain peace in the Horn of Africa and the results so far registered in poverty reduction. He said the Czech Republic was keen to further enhance existing economic co-operation with Ethiopia.
Kohout expressed the desire of investors from the Czech Republic to invest in Ethiopia. The investors were keen to engage in particular in infrastructure development and industrial sectors, he said.
Meanwhile, President Girma also met and held talks on Tuesday with the President of Caritas, a confederation of 164 Roman Catholic relief, development and social service organisations, Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga. They discussed the humanitarian activities being carried out by the organization. -- NNN-ENA |
