SAN SALVADOR, EL SALVADOR, Mar 8 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) - Regional security problems will highlight the meeting between Mexico and the Central American Integration System (SICA) here today.
Drug trafficking, organised crime, youth gangs and illicit arms trafficking are the main problems afflicting the region.
According to the Secretary General of SICA, Juan Daniel Alemán the regional bloc has the will of promoting the strategies and plans of action adopted in the meeting.
"We have already reached a point where the security situation and its solutions should be provided urgently", he said.
The problems have increased in the last years due to the use of the isthmus as a route for drug trafficking from the south of the continent to the United States, the world's largest market and with the highest consumption of drugs.
Participating in the meeting which ends tomorrow are high-ranking officials from Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Dominican Republic and Mexico. --NNN-PRENSA LATINA
