HAVANA, Dec 1 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) - The peculiarities of the economic crisis, its impact in regions and countries and its influence in the inequality of genders were presented here by expert Blanca Munster, a specialist from the World Economy Investigations Center.
In a regional workshop on the regional effects of the crisis, Munster highlighted the great gap between the speeches and the actions carried out by governments and organisations to face the problem affecting the whole planet.
The event took place in the opening session of the workshop to "increase conscience through the communication media" and it was discussed how the crisis affects women particularly.
"There are less than 70 economically active women for each 100 men in the world, while unemployment for women is bigger and the situation got worse in 2007," said Munster.
She reported many women are still working in the agriculture and family businesses without any salary and the number of women working in the maquilas in deplorable conditions is growing.
The workshop will be in session until Fri Dec 11, gathering specialists, academicians and journalists from 14 countries in the world.
Isabel Moya Richard, president of the Mirta Aguirre Staff and director of Editorial de la Mujer, highlighted the importance of the event to record experiences and prepare a manual with good suggestions for journalists on the topic. --NNN-PRENSA LATINA
